Thermoforming In-Mold Labeling (IML) is a specialized process used in the packaging and manufacturing industries. Thermoforming is the process of heating a plastic sheet until it becomes pliable, and then shaping it into a specific form using a mold. In-Mold Labeling (IML) is a technique where pre-printed labels are placed inside the mold before the thermoforming process takes place.
The process of Thermoforming IML involves the following steps:
Label Printing: High-quality labels are printed beforehand with the required design, branding, and product information.
Label Placement: These printed labels are precisely placed into the mold, with their decorative side facing the inside of the mold cavity.
Thermoforming: A plastic sheet or film, typically made of materials like polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene terephthalate (PET), is heated until it becomes pliable. It is then stretched over the mold cavity using vacuum or pressure, taking the shape of the mold and fusing with the pre-placed labels.
Cooling and Solidification: Once the plastic takes the shape of the mold and fuses with the labels, it is cooled down to solidify and maintain the desired shape.
Product Ejection: The final product, with the label now seamlessly integrated into the plastic packaging, is ejected from the mold.
